Measuring Your Success

Because most deferred gifts take years to come to fruition, other criteria must be developed to measure your planned giving program's success. While it is appropriate to set long-term revenue goals, it is more critical to initially measure short-term nonfinancial success.

Measure your success by utilizing the following criteria:

  • Planned gifts received
  • Planned gift intentions (Measuring by number of planned gift intentions, rather than dollar amount, can be an easier way to track commitments and encourage families to share their intentions with you.)
  • The number of contacts with donors by phone, email, letters, personal visits, etc.
  • The number of new recognition society members
  • The number of leads generated from marketing efforts
  • The number of new prospects
  • The number of attendees at planned giving recognition events and educational events
