Engaging Your ELCA Stakeholders

It is crucial that ELCA key leaders (synod leaders, regional and synodical staff leaders, pastors and other ministry leaders) commit to a planned giving program as more than just fundraising, but as an expression of faith for our members. As your program continues to grow, recruit leaders with planned giving expertise to strengthen understanding, loyalty and support for the program.

Ultimately, key leaders should:

  • endorse your planned giving program.
  • approve and fund the budget to build the program.
  • become involved in identifying, soliciting and building relationships with donors.
  • contribute financially through planned gifts.
  • stay informed of your planned giving activities.

Your Action Steps

  1. Educate your leaders on the importance of planned giving.
  2. Recruit leaders who have planned giving expertise.
  3. Connect with your regional gift planner to explore and/or document your own legacy gift.
  4. Secure and/or document planned gift commitments from the leadership team.
